LIHTC Program
One of the most common questions we receive about apartment eligibility is what the LIHTC program entails and how it influences admission decisions and the Plant Home’s mission. The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, or LIHTC, is a government program intended to provide affordable rental housing to eligible citizens. In 2004, the Plant Home added a 21-apartment addition utilizing the LIHTC program for funding. The LIHTC program primarily affects residents’ eligibility to live at the Plant Home and the rent amount.
When somebody applies for residency, they are required to provide documents that prove their monthly income. Due to the LIHTC program’s mission to aid low-income citizens, we cannot accept potential residents who make over $3,655 per month. Five apartments do not fall under the LIHTC program.
Every April, rent is set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Plant Home does not have control over rent costs.
